Upon graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art from San Jose State University, I spent the next 15 years free-lancing in the graphic design field where I created ads, brochures, company identities, and illustrative work.
The following years were spent raising a family and working full-time. Since retirement, I’ve returned to my original calling of illustration and fine art. While lessons and techniques learned from past instructors have stayed with me, I now take those lessons and explore further using different mediums and defining my own technique and style – both of which continue to change and evolve. Where I once attempted to make my art controlled and realistic, I now strive to create a more fluid and looser form. While I still enjoy laboring over pen & ink or pencil drawings, I now enjoy the challenge of acrylic paints, making me work faster due to its quick drying tendencies. Figures and faces continue to inspire me with their unlimited range of shape, color, line and movement. Nature is also a major inspiration with much time spent painting en plein air throughout the Bay Area.
