While art was always encouraged from a young age, I only considered it a side hobby for most of my life. It would make brief appearances here and there when I wasn’t busy with “more important things,” like when I was sidelined after tearing my ACL I took a painting class at City College of San Francisco. Most recently, it was the pandemic. But this time, it was different and it was here to stay.
Today, I find great joy and expression in watercolor and gouache. I am moved by nature and how it can provoke both breathtaking beauty and raw fear at the same time, due to weather or, more often, my own mind. My art is inspired by my favorite places for escape and adventure and the places I hope to see one day.
Jessica de Jesus began studying art in middle school and attended Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. While she entered UCLA as a Fine Art major, she graduated with a degree in Art History. She and her family are based in Walnut Creek, CA where they get to access the golden hills of Mt. Diablo at a moment’s notice or their beloved Sierra Nevada with a little more planning.
