Gerald Brommer 5-Day Watermedia & Collage Workshop
September 16-20, 2013; 9:00 a.m.-4 p.m.
Firehouse Arts Center, Pleasanton, CA and On Location

Learn how to interpret the natural landscape in order to create exciting images. Explore collage using handmade rice papers known as "washi" and watercolor to stain and design unique paintings in the studio. Then with the master teacher, Gerald Brommer, as your plein air painting guide, gain confidence with strong, colorful interpretations of the landscape in the vineyards and other locations in the area.

Gerald Brommer is a well known artist, author, juror, and career educator. He has exhibited in more than 300 solo and group shows in the United States and abroad. He is a life member and Past President of the National Watercolor Association, a member of the West Coast Watercolor Society and the National Arts Club. His work is represented in collections worldwide. Gerald Brommer's biography is included in Who's Who in American Art and several other noted publications

Stretching Your Watercolor Vocabulary
June 12 & 13, 2013, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Fee: $175 (paid by April 15) or $200 (paid after April 15)

watercolorExperiment with watermedia through watercolor, acrylic, gouache, or watercolor crayons, and take risks. Create poetic, realistic or purely abstract landscape paintings. Express mood and paint with abandon. Create glowing washes using layers of intense or subdued color guided by your own imagination. For advanced beginners through advanced painters. Limit: 18.

Carol Maddox of Pleasanton is an award winning Bay Area Artist and graduate of the California College of the Arts. She has taught locally and in Europe where she has lived and exhibited. PAL Workshop Policies

  1. All balance due checks must be received 30 days before the first day of a workshop.
  2. No refunds will be given after the workshop begins.
  3. Cancellations are accepted prior to 30 days before the workshop less the $50 administrative fee.
  4. Cancellations which find a replacement before the workshop starts will be refunded less a $25 fee.
  5. Emergenclies will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
  6. All cancellations MUST be in writing by letter or email and be acknowledged.
  7. PAL reserves the right to cancel workshops due to insufficient enrollment or any reason beyond their control; all funds will be retuned.
  8. A deposit of $100 will be required with accompanying registration form for each workshop.
  9. Additional fees for models or materials may be needed in addition to the workshop fee.

Carol Maddox Two-Week Painting Workshop in Italy

At La Romita School of Art in Umbria, Italy, August 16-30, 2013. The class will travel each day to hill towns from the home base in a 15th Century Monastery that sits in an olive grove, about halfway between Rome and Florence. Drawing the Head: Charcoal and Pastel on Paper

Students will gain a wealth of knowledge in a short period: Become familiar with the technique known as chiaroscuro, understand value and form, be able to render shadow shapes and their edges, and learn about the importance of proportions, measuring and perspective. Eight students maximum, age 12 and above, or strong interest in art. For the series of ten Tuesday classes, January 8 to March 12, 2013, the registration fee is $250. Open-Studio Figure Drawing and Painting

Nancy Storch: Children's Art Classes

Openings in small group classes for children ages 8 and older, starting first week in September: 8-10 year olds on Saturday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., 9-11 year olds on Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 5 p.m, and 11 year olds and older on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. All materials are provided; classes are held in Pleasanton at Nancy's studio.
