PAL Workshop 2015 - Katie Humphries - Painting Exploration

February 7-8, 2015
9:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Firehouse Arts Center
4444 Railroad Ave., Pleasanton, CA – Fee $199 Early-Bird, $209 Regular

Katie HumphriesPeople often ask: “Where do artists get their ideas? How do you decide what to paint when you are stuck? This Pleasanton Art League workshop is ideal for artists who desire to expand their creativity and take their work to new places through experimentation and self-discovery. Participants will get the tools to gain insight into their own artistic process and to develop unique themes and motifs that they can continue to draw from. A series of guided exercises will help them identify dominant concepts, culminating in a small series of interrelated paintings with an emphasis on experimentation, exploration, and personal vision. For this workshop, she welcomes participants to bring and apply their own media.

Katie Humphries is a painter and teacher who lives and works in San Francisco. She received her Katie Humphries MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. A specialist in oil painting materials and techniques, Humphries was trained at Gamblin Artists Colors where she worked as an artists’ advisor. Her recent work includes a series of portraits that examines the power, vulnerability, and anxiety that can coexist in the over-determined female form. She has exhibited her work in Portland, San Francisco, and New York, and recently completed a three-month artist’s residency in Ireland.
