Norma Webb
Oils
An oil painter of romantically representational landscapes, Norma finds it exciting to be able to communicate her appreciation of nature to the viewer. She particularly enjoys painting the lush golden foothills, conveying the feeling of a fresh breeze softly moving the grass. Her rural roots are frequently revealed in her work.
Landscape painting became a passion in 1970 after moving to San
Ramon where the rolling hills, oak trees and ranches were perfect
subjects. Although a native Californian, she was raised in the San
Joaquin Valley where the scenery was "rather flat!" She often
ponders the question of what subjects she would be painting if she
still lived in the great valley. "As far as I’m concerned, beautiful
Northern California contains enough subject matter to fill a lifetime
of painting."
Continuing her studies, she believes it is important to understand
all aspects of art. Instructors who have greatly influenced Norma
are Van Waldron, Kevin Macpherson, Joyce Pike, Ted Goerschner and
Marie MacDonnell Roberts. Several years ago, she studied with E.
John Robinson, believing that seascapes would be her ultimate subject.
"But, after several years, I still felt completely intimidated by
the never ending motion of the waves and surf and opted to admire
the masters' works instead of trying to do it myself!"
A signature member of the Society of Western Artists, Norma is active
in community related art activities and associations. She has received
numerous awards in major juried exhibitions and has had many one
person and group shows. Her paintings are in private and corporate
collections across the U.S. and abroad. |
