Linda Smith
Acrylics/Mixed Media

Linda Smith is a fine artist, based in Livermore, California.  Smith studied fine and applied arts in college, receiving a BA in Humanities from the University of Oregon in 1976.

Smith says of her love of art, "My art training began at the feet of my grandfather . . . as a child and teen, I would sit and watch him paint. My grandfather was a traditionalist and realist, taking joy in painting seascapes and California Missions. I took a different path."

Smith's work can best be described as abstract expression, working mostly in acrylics and mixed media. She is a colorist, meaning that for her, manipulating color is the passion behind her work. "I find natural forms — sea life, plants and flowers, butterflies — to be perfect armatures for the application of color."

She also loves to reinterpret photographs that catch her imagination. "I reinterpret with color — the scene in the photograph may still be recognizable in my painting, but what I have done is to interpret the photo into an expression of color."
