Bonnie Mary Rathjen is an artist and physician who resides in Pleasanton, California. One winter after pruning her rose bushes, she couldn’t
bear to throw away the last blossoms of the season, and that is how
her fine art photography was born. She loves to grow flowers and her
art expresses that joy. Over the last several years, she has organically
grown the flowers that she photographs.
Bonnie is a self-taught photographer and credits the members of
the Livermore Camera Club as her mentors.
Her art is in the collections of the ValleyCare Health Library
in Pleasanton, CA., the Palo Alto Medical Clinic in Fremont, CA,
and the Radiation Oncology Center in Castro Valley, CA. Her art has
been featured on the cover of The Common Ground magazine,
and she has been represented by the Thompson Gallery in Livermore,
CA since 1995. Her greetings cards are available at The Berry Patch
in downtown Pleasanton, CA.
Bonnie says, "My art begins in the garden, cultivating the soil
and nurturing the flowers. I feel that each blossom is a sacred expression
of life. I am drawn to the secret places within a flower, and the
breath-taking beauty I find there transcends the ordinary realm.
The transcendent is always present, just beyond the ordinary. As
an artist, I hope to sustain and share with you a moment when the
material and spiritual realms overlap, a moment of transcendence." |
