Mary Lloyd
Oils
Mary Lloyd has had a lifelong interest in art and drawing. When
asked, "How long have you been painting?" she answers, "All
my life," because
she believes everything you are you bring to your art. As a child
she remembers asking her sister to hold the family dog still so that
she could draw her. She also sketched her mother as they sat at the
table after dinner.
Mary began seriously painting in oils in the 1970's. "I love painting
with oil, moving the paint around with my brush — leaving brush
strokes that make texture and add dimension to the painting, and
sometimes surprises," she says. "Painting
is an ongoing learning and enriching experience and I enjoy all aspects
of it." She
has studied portrait painting with Peg Humphries and Juan Pena and
with impressionistic instructors including Van Waldron, Ted Goerschner,
Kevin Macpherson and Joyce Pike. She enjoys painting all subjects.
Mary has been included in many juried shows, including annual exhibits
of the Society of Western Artists and has her signature award in
that organization. She has received numerous juror and purchase awards,
including the Alameda County Fair Board of Directors purchase award.
She has had several one and two person shows.
Mary is an active member in several artists' groups including PAL
(present board member and past President), LAA, and ADAS. Her smiling
face can be seen as a volunteer in almost all activities of these
organizations. For many years she has offered her time and her home
for assembly and mailing of the monthly Portfolio. |
