Amy D. Leung
Oils/Pastels
Since childhood, Amy has lived and worked in a number of places
around the world — New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong,
Seoul, Taipei and Geneva before moving to the San Francisco Bay
Area in 1998. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from
Pratt Institute, New York, and has worked in advertising studios
and publishing companies involving projects in illustration, graphic
design, magazine covers, printed ad, logo design and posters. While
in Japan, Amy studied under a master of ikebana sogetsu-style flower
arrangement and sumie water color painting. In her high school years,
Amy took evening figure drawing classes at Ecole de Beaux Art in
Geneva, Switzerland.
While her artistic exposure and background are multi-faceted, which
is often reflected in her work, Amy's main passion since childhood
has been in painting, especially oil and pastel. These have remained
her current concentration. Amy's favorite subject matters in her
paintings are landscape, cityscape, seascape, still life and animals,
especially dogs which are her life-long love.
Partly due to her formal training in illustration, Amy typically
begins each painting with a carefully thought-out "feeling" about
the subject matter. As she commits her inner thoughts to canvas,
she focuses on conveying her emotions and sensitivity about the concept,
and then the subject matter to the viewer. The ultimate satisfaction
is to reach out and touch the viewer deeply through her work. On
a technical level, Amy likes to play on light and color which offer
endless varieties and possibilities. The challenge is to bring out
the unique characteristics of the subject vividly so that it creates
a striking and memorable experience for the viewer.
Amy has won many awards in juried art shows both nationally as well
as in local communities where she has won best of class, bronze awards,
merit awards, and honorable mentions. Amy is a member of Pleasanton
Art League and Livermore Art Association.
Amy' works are available in limited edition Giclee on canvas or
