Oils
Gina Kaiper is a painter and photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area. She
paints primarily in oil, with museums as a major subject. She focuses on connecting
contemporary experience with the rich tradition of art through the centuries.
Gina exhibits her work widely throughout the San Francisco East
Bay, and she has won awards for both paintings and photographs. She
is a member of the Las Positas College Art Club, the Livermore Art
Association, the Pleasanton Art League, and the Achenbach Graphic
Arts Council at the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco.
Gina has studied painting, drawing, and art history at Las Positas
College in Livermore, CA.
Gina says, "My paintings connect contemporary experience with the
rich tradition of art through the centuries. I depict people looking
at — or
perhaps ignoring — works of art in a museum context. Some of
the people encountered in museums are providing security or maintenance.
Some are carved of marble, cast in bronze, or painted on canvas.
For many years I have photographed in U.S. and European museums,
and these photos serve as a point of departure for my paintings.
As part of the process, I try to develop a deeper understanding of
each artist whose work is depicted, and I also imagine stories about
the modern people who appear in my art." |
