Although I've been involved with photography in one way or another since childhood in the mid-40s in an Oregon logging camp with my "trusty" Donald Duck camera, it wasn't until after retiring from 40 years of teaching that I have found the time and/or energy to promote my work.
Basically I have to describe myself as a generalist who finds suitable
subjects almost anywhere. I often use flowers as my subject and have
developed a white backgrounds technique that gives a photograph a
watercolor appearance.
Since my retirement I have been fortunate to win awards in several
photography competitions including the Alameda and Contra Costa County
Fairs, several art shows in Brentwood, Livermore and Antioch, and
a Washington D.C. Smithsonian Zoological Photography Competition.
If an image makes a statement by getting and holding your attention
and then evokes a positive emotional response, I have accomplished
my goal. My photography tends to be very quiet and hopefully creates
a feeling of peacefulness and tranquility. |
