Barbara Jean
Acrylics

Barbara Jean is an abstract artist who has been working in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1983. She studied fine art at Chabot College, Hayward, and privately for two years with Douglas Gilbert of JFK University, Berkeley. In the 90's she shifted her focus from representational art to abstract expressionism.

Her most recent artwork touches upon archetypal themes that express a broad range of human experience including: Birth, death, entrapment, freedom, autonomy, unity and relationship. "I paint to learn," says the artist, "and work intuitively. There are three questions I continually ask: Who am I? What is all this? Who am I in relation to all this? I know I can never fully answer these questions but painting helps me touch the edge of the truth occasionally. Through the work I hope to become more familiar, more understanding and more accepting of myself, of others, and of the world in which we live."

The artist's work has been shown widely in Northern California, in many juried shows and invitationals.
