Red Iron Bark Eucalyptus

David Goosman
Wood

David says, "I started woodworking many years ago making items for our new house. Only when I started turning wood in 1993, did I realize that God put hidden beauty inside the trees that I used to see only as objects of shade and lumber. Even the stump that was underground often has special beauty. Now when I look at a tree, I also think of the turned objects that could be made from it.

"In 1995 a storm blew down our acacia tree. I had no idea that God’s hand was in this, because some of the items I have made are from that very tree. Turning is a good way of forgetting the stresses of life. Total concentration is absolutely necessary to avoid disaster.

"It is a shame that much good wood gets burned as firewood. After a tree has given fruit for many years and falls victim to a storm, why not have part of it to look at forever, rather than smoking up the neighborhood by burning it?

BETTER TO TURN IT THAN TO BURN IT!
