Bettie Goosman
Oils/Watercolor
Bettie was born and raised on a farm/ranch in South Africa. Her
love of nature is evident in her oil and watercolor paintings. She
strives to capture what is typical of a particular season, time or
place.
Bettie contracted
tuberculosis while finishing her doctorate in science, and during
the 18 months of her convalescence taught herself to paint.
Two years later she married and moved to the United States, settling
in Livermore in 1975.
Through her painting Bettie strives to preserve fast-disappearing
rural scenes and landscapes.
Bettie says,
"Painting lets me forget everything else, and looking at a completed
painting fills me with peace and tranquility. I am constantly amazed
at how God intervenes and the joy He has given me and is still giving
me through painting — the beauty I see and the people I meet.
He gave us so much beauty in nature, if only we will look."
Most of Bettie's paintings are large, i.e. 24" x 48" or 30" x 50"
and many were commissioned. She has both California and South
African landscapes and wildlife paintings. Her paintings are
in many foreign countries.
Giclees on paper or canvas of Bettie's work are available. She
